If you have a DVI output on your computer (and that’s all modern Apple Macs for example) then get a monitor that has a DVI input! HDMI is not quite equivalent no matter what anyone tells you. While this monitor looks great attached to my older 15″ Macbook Pro when I attached it to my newer one (bought in December 2009) it took me ages to get the resolution set up right without horrible aliased fonts and other jaggies. I’ve never experienced that sort of set up issue with a DVI equipped monitor before and I hope to never repeat the experience.

Also the little ring thing that props the monitor up and allows you to adjust it’s angle just isn’t as flexible as a “proper” old style monitor stand.

As a piece of furniture it’s ok (as in it looks the part), but as an actual monitor these are significant enough defects to prevent me giving it a passing grade.

I bought this monitor to use with my Mac Book Pro 15” laptop (latest model). The monitor looks great, very easy to assemble, and very very light weight. Unfortunately, I’m having difficulty getting it work properly though.

The monitor came with a VGA-VGA cable. When I connected it to my laptop using a Mini DisplayPort – VGA adaptor, the highest resolution I could use on the monitor was 1440 X 900. That’s same as my laptop’s resolution and basically defeats my very purpose of having an external monitor.

Next I tried with the HDMI-DVI cable which was also bundled with the monitor. I connected to the laptop using Mini DisplayPort – DVI adaptor. This time, I could select up to 1600 X 900 on the monitor. It’s better than what I could get with VGA cables, but still not using the highest resolution possible with this monitor (1920 X 1080).

With HDMI-DVI setup, I also see a few additional resolution choices at the top on the Display Preferences on my mac : 1080p, 1080i, 720p, and 480p. They all have a TV icon next to them, and I figure they’re for using the monitor as TV. I selected 1080p from that list, but the text display on the screen is still not crisp and I still see it grainy. And I can’t figure out how to tell the laptop or monitor to treat it as a regular LCD monitor rather than a TV.

At this point, I am not sure if it is an issue of mac-compatible drivers or this is what the monitor is capable of with a Mac. I couldn’t find any Mac drivers from Asus website either. I want to keep the monitor because it’s a great-looking piece, but what good is it if it doesn’t work as well as it claims to? I am curious how one of the reviewers got it to work perfectly fine with his 13” Mac Book Pro – would you care to share details of your settings, perhaps? Thanks.

It has a very nice image, cool touchscreen buttons, nice look and feel, easy to install, until this moment I don’t have any complain about it.

Be aware of Backlight bleeding on these monitors. The first one I got had annoying bleeding on the top and bottom edges. Amazon was kind enough to send me a replacement but it had the same issue.

It wasn’t TOO BAD. But very distracting when trying to watch a wide screen movie because you would have the two (supposed to be black) grayish bars on the top and bottom. Other than that – it was a pretty nice monitor. I personally was not a fan of the wheel stand, especially not good if you’re not higher than the monitor. Everything else looked pretty good – especially for a TN panel.
