Just purchased the HL-2140 to replace the HL-2170W that quit working after 16 months of use.
It was cheaper to buy this than to repair the other one!
This took 3 very frustrating hours of installing and re-installing the software and drivers to get it to print. Absolutely freakin’ ridiculous!
Once you get it working, nice prints at a reasonable cost per page. Hope this one lasts longer than 16 months!

We use three of these printers for a small business. Although the printer is incredibly inexpensive, the cost per page (toner cost) is not the lowest. However this is an ultra reliable printer and the best we’ve seen for dealing with paper jams. Our employees are not very savvy at fixing paper jams, this printer rarely jams and when it does its easy to resolve by novices. We use the paper feed slot for occasionally printing full page labels and its hands down the easiest to use. We are phasing out our much more expensive Canon and HP laser printers and plan to purchase more of these.

Have had this printer for a month…use it for a business where I print a lot of invoices…have already printed over 500 pages. It prints beautifully & was easy to set up. I have 3 computers networked to this printer for ease of use. Very happy with this purchase, a great investment, can’t beat the price for what you receive!

I have bought brother laser jet printers in the past and the low volume toner cartridge that came with the printer would last for several hundred copies before it expired. The one I bought recently started having printing issues after less than 100 (average) documents since I purchased it. The toner light keeps blinking or stays on solid and the printer won’t print at all. I called Brother tech support and the tech said that when the cartridge runs out on toner on their modern laser-jet printers it just fails to print. Every other laser-jet printer I have ever seen continues printing until the cartridge is obviously low on toner- you can see on the actual print has streaks or it becomes transparent or too light because of a lack of toner. This didn’t happen on the HL-2140, the printer just stops and the toner light comes on. I believe that Brother actually kills the use of the printer after a period so you have to go out and buy a new toner cartridge instead of allowing you to actually use it until the cartridge actually runs out of toner. Another corporation using gimmicks to require you to pay them more. The tech informed me that their cartridges are filled according to an ISO standard for low volume cartridges. This should be enough to last several hundred prints, not less than 100. I bought a laser-jet printer to avoid having to replace the cartridge so fast….Big disappointment! I had to go out and replace the toner cartridge at about the same number of prints I would have made if it were an ink jet printer cartridge…
